malwarebytes

I recently contacted Apple regarding my browser. It was redirecting me to what was obviously not an apple support site. I would close it and it would automatically open again. I finally contacted apple support, and they recommended I download malwarebytes. Do they usually do that? Is that legit?

iMac 21.5", macOS 10.13

scam likely a pop up of "apple tech support" showed up in my safari, saying I have a virus, I believed it and they make me download an app: "Support LogMeIn rescue", then the app asked me to allow access, it got suspicious and I cancel immediately, deleted the app, closed everything I had open and even shut down my MacBook. I believed nothing bad had happened to my MacBook, but I was wondering if there might be something I can do to clean up any virus, hacker, or suspicious activity on my MacBook, should I be worry? should I do something else? Thank you

Yes, it is legit, and recommend by most users here as well for AdWare issues.
