Multiple worksheets in one workbook like in Excel?

Numbers has sheets (tabs) listed across the top. you can place zero or more tables on the canvas of each sheet and arrange them with chart, pictures, shapes and text as you see fit.

you can change between sheets by click the sheet tab at the top. You can use the contextual menu for a sheet to delete, duplicate or create a new sheet

In Numbers, a Document is similar to a Workbook in Excel.

A Document has at least one Sheet, and may have many Sheets,

Each Sheet, when created, comes with one Table. The combination of a Sheet and a table has some similarity to what is called a Worksheet in Excel.

Excel'sWorksheet is a vast grid of cells.

Numbers Sheet is also vast, but contains only as many cells as you decide is necessary. Those cells are laid out in rows and columns on one or more separate Tables, each of which may be freely moved to any position on the Sheet, or even to another Sheet, if that produces what the user sees as a better document.

Numbers tables are usually made only as large (measured in rows and columns) as they need to be. They can be as small as a single cell.

Besides Tables, a Sheet may contain several other types of Objects, including Charts (graphs) Text boxes, Shapes (which may also contain Text) or images.

Tht said, don't expect Numbers to be Excel, or to be 'just like Excel. It's fairly obvious that the teams designing the two applications had different priorities and different goals.

Not directly from Excel.

You can open an Excel document into Numbers (using the same procedure as opening an Numbers file into Numbers). From there, you can save it as a Numbers file.

Numbers will translate the imported Excel document into a Numbers doc. (No change will be made to the original Excel file.)

The translations are not always perfect, though. Any feature of Excel that is not supported in Numbers will not be imported. In the case of formulas containing unsupported functions, Numbers will import the last calculated value, but not the formula itself.

Nubers also does the translation when exporting a Numbers file to .xlsx format, so the same is true in that direction as well.

If your regularly send files back and forth with someone using Excel, your best path is to use Excel. Second best is probably to use one of the open source applications based on OpenOffice or StarOffice. LibreOffice seems to be the one with the most active development program.
