You need to physcially connect the iPad to the computer running iTunes using a usb cable. But you will need to reboot it before connecting it as explained int he support document.

If it still does not appear, then you may need to contact Apple support.

when I logon to iTunes it doesn’t bring up my iPad. It just shows my iPhone. I really don’t use iTunes.
You need to use a 30-pin to USB cable. This cable is usually used to charge the iPad.
This is the cable needed for connecting an iPad 2 to a USB port on a Mac or Windows system.
