I am upgrading from my iphone 7 to an iphone 8 that I do not have the passcode for (was my dead brother's). Can i just backup my 7 to iTunes on my laptop and then restore to the 8? then move the SIM as well for the service?
If the phone is not activation locked you should reset it to factory specifications—>Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support, the you can restore the backup of your iPhone 7.
