Does the magic keyboard use the iPad Pro battery faster than if you used the iPad without the keyboard?

As the Magic Keyboard and its backlight is powered by the iPad’s battery, it can do no other than to consume more power (reducing battery runtime) whilst connected and in-use.

It is possible, however, to connect your Power Adapter (charger) to the USB-C pass-through connector located in the Magic Keyboard hinge. This will power the Magic Keyboard, and both power and change the iPad, whilst connected.

Of course it will use the battery when you use the ipad, as the keyboard i lit.

BUT I Also have experienced that it also drains the battery when I am NOT using the Ipad. Not when it is closed, but if the ”lid is open” but the screen is off it still drains the ipad in a worrying pace. I left my ipad on the desk for app. 3 hours and it went from 40% to 0 and nothing was active on the ipad except notifications. Normally, without the keyboard that would not affect batery level at all (almost). So, yes there are something not right here..

Having same problem even with lid closed. Best guess is the new magic keyboard is constantly drawing from the battery even when closed. Have the new 12.9 2019 model and new magic keyboard. Noticed a problem last week when I put it down one day the charge was in the 80's. Next day, probably a little over 24 hours, I opened the iPad the the battery was in the red 7%.
