macos sleep command line

how do I get my Mac mini 2020 to sleep from the command line. I need the CL, as I use a third party mouse and keyboard. I cannot effectively sleep the Mac from the menu in the top left, as mouse movement just puts the Mac straight back on.

I used to use the pmset /sleepnow command. I am having issues with this, as resume is quite slow, around 24 seconds. I am convinced this is doing a hibernate, rather than a sleep.

Is there a better way of doing "sleep" on the command line?

You can tell Siri 'go to sleep'.
