iPhone SE 64gb (2020 edition) Freezing up / Over heating

After taking a series of photos using the generic Apple photo app, my screen froze. No screen or button function was being recognized. After holding the off button for several minutes, the screen went black and a spinning wheel appeared on the screen. The phone also became very hot while this was happening and as I continued to try and turn it off. This continued for over 1.5 hours until the battery ran down and the phone turned off. The reason I know this is because when the phone finally turned off, I plugged the charging cord back in and the battery was at 1%. I kept the phone on the charger and it eventually charged back up to 100% and has been working fine for the past 12 hours. I am concerned that a phone that is less than a week old would do this. It also worries me that the phone was too hot to touch for such a long time. Might this have compromised the long term durability of some of the components of the phone?

Hi Wormy2020se,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see your iPhone stopped responding and I'd like to help out with what to do.

Sometimes your iPhone may stop responding and as it's trying within itself to overcome this, you may notice that it gets warm.

What you need to do is a forced restart with the steps shown in this article for your model iPhone: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

The article continues with additional steps, if needed. Usually the force restart takes care of the issue, unless there is something happening within the software, which is what the additional steps can help with.

Take care!
