iPod touch 6th generation disabled

I have an iPod touch 6th generation that I haven't used in a couple years. Forgot the passcode and was ultimately locked out permanently. Tried to use all the online reset instructions to recover, but hasn't worked. iTunes does not recognize this device (strange since that's how it got all my music on it to begin with). At this point I would be happy with a factory reset, since I just want to let my kid use it for wifi.

So, how can I reset this?
