Delete iCloud backup for a device I don't have

In my iCloud 5gb storage, I can see that an iPhone 7 that I no longer have is taking up 1.8 gb of my storage allotment. When I try to "Turn Off & Delete" for that device from my new iPhone or iPad, I get a message that says "Cannot Delete Backup." Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.

Hello vidadaisy,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble deleting an iCloud backup. I'd be happy to share information that may help.

Take a look at the "Manage your iCloud Backup" section of this article: Manage your iCloud storage.

Next, check under Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup to confirm that a restore is not in progress.

If those are the steps you're using to delete the iCloud backup and a restore is not currently in progress, please Contact Apple Support.

Take care.
