Markers in Photo maps

In IPHOTO the geographic location on maps was a pin. In the PHOTO app this is replaced by a square that contains a photo. This blots out many of the details of the area unlike the pin. If one has many photos in nearby locations they overlap and one needs to go to much finer magnifications to distinguish the precise locations - and one loses the big picture, literally.

Is there some way to customize this feature and to return to the use of pins or other less obscuring markers?
