UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD AND UPDATE APPS

I cannot download or update apps. I used to have a credit and debit card connected to my Apple ID and AppStore. My subscriptions that I had have been cancelled(obviously), but the problem I am facing is that I can no longer install free apps like iMovie to my device. Each time I try it says to verify my payment method, which I do not have, at the moment. Each time I try, it will not download the app and tell my to re-enter my password. Is there any way around this?

I think this is your problem--a somewhat "new" known issue that … [Apple] is actively working on (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251180098).
