Move iTunes to an external drive

iTunes came installed on my new HP laptop. I have a WD Discovery external hard drive that I want to move iTunes to and then delete iTunes off of the laptop. Is there a way to do that without losing all my iTunes music? Thank you for your time and help on this matter.

Howard

In most cases your iTunes library will be at C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes. You should normally copy the iTunes folder to the root of the D: drive as D:\iTunes then press and hold down shift as you start iTunes, keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library, click choose, then browse to and open D:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Once you've checked that the library is working properly you can delete the original copy of the library on the C: drive.

Hello,

Thank you for sending this. I have found it somewhat helpful since I am not as adept as you. I will have to read it over and over.

The attachments at the end are also very helpful. I am beginning to know why it works and doesn't.

Now All I need is what I should do to delete my original iTunes folder under the C:\ drive to the user I make a new user or such in my D:\ drive since my C:\ is a small SSD.

Any help on this is also very appreciated.

Again, Thanks for the time you took to help.

Michael
