How come songs I’ve uploaded via CD’s I’ve purchased aren’t available in such instances? Do they have to be purchased through iTunes specifically?

Also curious if there’s a way when subscribed to Apple Music to distinguish which songs aren’t DRM protected and available to such apps/devices. It would be great to have a filter added to an iTunes update to simplify searching.

Actually buy the songs instead of getting them through an Apple Music subscription.

why do we have to buy the songs instead of having them play through the apple music subscription

Because they'll only play for active subscribers. Any application or device incapable of checking this won't be able to play them, and they can't be converted through any means.

I have purchased music files outright and they still won't play on my Sony WALKMAN NW-WS413 in any process I try to get them to.
