Untouched, overnight: screen still stuck on disabled try again 15 minutes

My daughter entered the wrong password until we got the 15 minutes password. I took it away and waiting 15 minutes...still said disabled try again in 15 minutes. Left it over night...still says disabled try again 15 minutes. Assuming I'll still have to reset, but I'm hoping there's another way since it seems like the iPad is frozen in time/having its own problem.
