Time Machine not working after Mojave Update

Hello,

I have a Mid 2014 Macbook Pro - I am SO satisfied with this laptop. It has done great things for me and I plan on replacing it with a new version once its life is over.

The other day, I finally upgraded to Mojave from Yosemite 10.10 - I had some compatibility issues with programs I was using and Mojave seemed to be the best fit. I am overall very satisfied with the update, but CANNOT get Time Machine to work.

Each time I try to back up, it says "Backing up: Zero KB out of 197GB" and just stays there. It has stayed there for HOURS. I have reformatted and repaired my drive, I have gone into preferences and deleted the "com.Apple.TimeMachine..." file, I have rebooted my machine countless times. I do not understand why this isn't working, and I am worried that if my computer dies, I won't have any data because I reformatted my drive. any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

The drive itself could be suspect. Try a different drive and compare the results.
