OS Catalina upgrade issue

I upgraded MacBook Pro mid 2012 to Catalina. Java notification pops up on screen. Can't get rid of it. Have to use computer in safe mode. Is there a fix for this issue?

Gotcha! Unfortunately, you are using the software in quotes, and it requires the old Apple Java support plug-in. That no longer exists for Catalina, Mojave, etc. down to at least to Sierra, I think. You can only install the Oracle plug-in. Apple stopped their Java support so the legacy software no longer works. I think, in part, because it is 32-bit, and Apple had been moving toward an all 64-bit OS. Today, that version is Catalina.

The solution is an upgrade of that gateway software mentioned in the error mention to one compatible with Catalina and the Oracle plug-in. See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps. If that isn't possible, then you will need to find different software that does work or stop using it altogether. If you don't know anything about the app, then it may be malware, so removing it would be a good thing.

You need to upgrade Java by downloading the most recent release from Oracle. Try this: Java SE Runtime Environment 88u241. Apple does not have anything to do with Java support anymore. They do not make a Java plug-in any longer. All Java software now comes from Oracle. The link above is for the runtime environment. If you program in Java, then you will need to install the SDK from them, too.

After upgrading to Catalina there is a Java upgrade notice what keeps popping up on screen. There is no way to get rid of it, therefore, it makes the computer unusable. I have clicked on the "more info" button which takes me to the Apple site, but there is no information on correcting the issue. I have searched the internet and it appears this is not an isolated issue. Many users have the same problem. I talked to Apple support. They checked my computer and couldn't get rid of it either. They said in order to use my computer I have to start in safe mode which I have been doing for quite some time. Problem is audio does not work, now trying to access a thumb drive which doesn't work, etc. This is unacceptable. I have been patiently waiting for Apple to fix this problem, but after several months it appears that's not going to happen. My computer had no issues until the upgrade. I'm so frustrated.

As far as I know I don't need Java. I checked on my computer and found some files under Library/Java. They are JavaVirtualMachines and Extensions. Both dated Nov 9, 2019. The time on the Extensions file is 2:00am the other is 5:06am which I found odd. I wondering if I delete these files if that would solve my problem. Any thoughts from you would be great. Thank you for what we have given me so far.
