Not all Photos are stored in iCloud

G'day


I have got the 50GB subscription with 23GB available. On my Mac storage its says 17gb used is photos. But iCloud photos is on so why is photos stored under my Mac. is there a max on how many photos you can upload on Mac because I've used 16gb of photos in iCloud! How do I fix this. I've attached photos.

How would I know which photos are stored under my Mac so I can delete them??

iCloud Photos is a syncing service. It does not remove the photo from your Mac. You can potentially reduce the storage space required on a device by opening the Photos app on your Mac, going to Photos Preferences > iCloud and turning on Optimize Mac Storage. See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204264


Apple does not currently offer cloud-only storage for photos. If that is what you want or need, you may want to explore 3rd party options such as Google Photos or Dropbox.
