Remove an old device from Airdrop options on iPhone 11 Pro

I got a new MacBook Pro. My old MacBook pro still shows up in Airdrop options on my iPhone 11 Pro even though the old machine has been erased with the OS reinstalled - I followed Apple's support article on how to do that. My new machine shows up in the Airdrop list too, but only when it's nearby. Why does this machine that doesn't even exist anymore still show up in the option - seemingly permanently?

In the screenshot below, the new machine is on the right, and the old machine (notice the uppercase "B" is on the left). Note: I've renamed the new machine something entirely different than the old machine, so this doesn't have to do with similarity of naming.

The only thing that worked to fix this problem was to update the Apple/iCloud password. This forced a logout everywhere and once re-logged in, the old device was gone. Simply logging out and in and again didn't work; resetting the password was crucial apparently.
