My iPhone 8 created multiple Snapchat and WhatsApp albums on its own. The albums are blank. Does anyone know how and why the phone does this? Or has anyone else experienced it?

The albums are created when you first start the apps. They folders will populate when you actually save images from these apps to Photos.
The “phone” didn’t do it, but the apps themselves.
Some apps create albums in Photos, do you can easily find images saved from those apps.

No. All photos from a given app will be saved to that one album (or folder).
When you delete the album from Photos, some apps won’t re-create it until you actually try to save images from it. Others, unfortunately, will re-add them regardless.

it’s so strange because I have my what’s up photo settings on auto save but not Snapchat..
& the majority of the blank albums were titled WhatsApp

What I am saying is that these albums were always blank. Is there anything that can explain that? Multiple blank albums just sitting there? I know I didn’t create them
