Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support

Deregister is used when you switch to a non Apple phone from an iPhone. Follow the instructions below, do not leave any out, do what the last line says should it not work.

  1. On your Mac:
    • In Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click Accounts and select your iMessage account. Click Sign Out.
    • In FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Preferences, then click Sign Out.
  1. On your iPhone, iPad, and iPod:
    • Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    • Go to Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
  1. On your iPhone:
    • Go back to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is turned on.
    • Tap Send & Receive, then choose “Use your Apple ID for iMessage” and sign in with your Apple ID.
  1. Using the same Apple ID, sign back in to Messages and FaceTime on your other devices.

If you still need help, change your Apple ID password and repeat the setup steps. If that doesn't work, contact Apple Support.

You can click "Contact Support" top right corner of this page for help from Apple, just follow the leads until you get to the telephone or chat options, they are very busy now so it may take a few tries to reach them, and some options may not be available right away so just keep trying until you reach them.

I have tried that and am still using the same iPhone but have just switched number. After changing provider I had to wait for my PAC code to change my new provider number back to my original phone number. All of this is on the same iPhone, when I follow the steps above or try to deregister with Apple they send the code to the number........I am using that sim which is now imprinted with my old number, this means no-one can receive the code.

I have logged out of every device, I have iCloud logged out, I have changed my password, I have tried to deregister.

Nothing works, I still cannot remove the new number or tether iMessage to my original number.

can someone help please?
