60 degrees C is ordinary.
100 degrees C (212 F) is on the verge of doing an emergency uncontrolled power-off to save the computer from damage.
Temps in between should be spinning the fans a lot faster as it gets hotter.

Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

As @Grant mentions about 100C is as hot as the CPU should ever get. The CPU and the Mac hardware will use several methods to keep the temperatures below critical levels. The first line of defense is the fan(s) will run faster. If you are running the CPUs at max, then the temps could hover around 95C - 100C with the fan(s) at high speed. If this is not enough to keep the CPU temps under control, then the CPU will become throttled which means instead of the CPU cores running at 2+ GHz, the CPU core will drop to the default idle speed of 800MHz until the system cools enough to allow the CPU cores to speed up again.
The recent Apple laptops run hot when used heavily and this is normal behavior. During my own personal testing I've observed the CPUs will usually hover around 65C to 80C for average workloads with low to moderate fan speeds, but when the system is pushed harder the CPU temps will hover around 92C to 100C.
