new update is taking 3 days

I started updating my Mac few hours ago and it keeps showing me that the remaining time is about 3 days!! Is that normal?

I tried shutting it down and the same time was given again! I've been waiting for hours and it's seriously counting from 3 days down!!

What can be the problem? what should I do?

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Those projected times a notoriously way off the mark— and can jump from 3 days to 3 minutes.

If your Network download speed is suspect, get on a faster Network, or move closer to the router, or use a Ethernet connection.

Verify your Date and Time are set correctly—within 5 minutes.

If in doubt you can verify /sync with Apple server from the Terminal.app, copy and paste:

sudo sntp -sS time.apple.com

(note: your psswd will not echo, type it in anyway, then proceed with the enter/return key)
