Ability to Rotate Video with iMovie?

I tried searching but could not find anything specifically addressing this. Is there a way to rotate portions of a video that transition from landscape to portrait with iMovie? I have not been able to find this setting within iMovie or normal video player. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

As a note, be sure that when you start recording with the iPhone, you are holding it exactly how you want to record. If you start recording in portrait mode (with the phone vertical), and then rotate it to landscape (horizontal) in the middle of record, the video will be rotated improperly when you view it or try to edit it. As long as you maintain the same position of the camera from start to finish, you won't ever need to rotate the video. Hope this helps!

That's crazy they don't include such an important feature in the app... especially knowing how common accidentally rotated videos are.

You should get rotatevideo. It says it's not supported by iPhone 4, but I just tested it and it worked. Tell it which way to rotate, click save, it saves a new copy of the video in your camera roll, rotated.

If I can rotate the clip, I can always add the same video as 2 clips, then rotate each one separately.

I have also problem with importing video captured on iPhone because I often start recording in portrait mode (more convenient with 1 free hand), then rotate to landscape immediately.

Needless to say, all my video is imported incorrectly, and so iMovie is useless for me. 😟

i know this is almost 2 years after the orignal post. but if your in events and you select the entire clip , you can then hover over the clip and click on the gear, a cropping and rotation option is avalable. not sure if that was there in the version u were using at the time. only think is that youcan only go 90 degree increments . no custom rotation and if your not using imovie 11 and still have an issue. this http://blip.tv/jake-show/how-to-rotate-a-video-in-imovie-655335 shows you a plugin that helps

Foggie, not only did you biring up a year old question, which was answered way back then,

You have now posted advise that is for a different operating system and version of iMovie.

This is the forum for iMovie iOS; iPads, iPhone, iPods.

Not for Mac.

It's nice that you are trying to help, but please read where you are posting, and what has been asked before posting advice that is wrong; and especially on posts that have been answered.

Thanks.
