iPad (A10 Processor) or iPad Air (A12 Processor)??

I am looking at an iPad for my son and am deciding between an iPad and an iPad Air. The price difference is around $200 but the only real difference I can see in the specs is the fusion processor (aside from camera quality, display etc which isn’t overly important to us). I’m thinking of going with the iPad (A10 processor) as he will literally be using it to play games and watch YouTube, that’s it. But, I don’t want to go for the cheaper option if the A10 gets made obsolete in the future and I would have been better going with the A12. I don’t want an expensive paperweight.

I know nothing about this stuff so hoping someone can help! 🤞
