Finder has a delay when opening files (while the terminal works well)

After a restart of my MacBook Pro it has been behaving weird. If I want to open a file from the finder e.g. double click or Cmd+O, it takes several seconds before the flickering feedback of the file icon and the launch of the corresponding app. However, when using `open <filepath>` from the terminal, the file is immediately opened as usual.

I tried to:

1) use another account (root / without root)

2) reset the NVRAM, PRAM, SMC

3) enter the safe mode

4) clear the preferences (.plist) of finder

but the problem persists. Does anyone have an idea?

I choose a pdf file as an example. But all the files have this problem regardless of their sizes, formats and the default apps.

Hello, and thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

From your post, I understand there is a delay when opening files using Finder. I'd like to help and you've done some excellent troubleshooting steps so far. Try some of the steps listed in this article including the disk repair to see if that helps: If your Mac runs slowly

Check also the Activity Monitor as suggested in the article. This may help us identify why there is a delay. If you use Spotlight, do you see any delays when searching for content?

Have you tried reinstalling macOS? Make sure to have a current backup: Back up your Mac then reinstall macOS.

Keep me updated.

Cheers!
