I signed up for 12months free apple TV when I bought a new ipad air, when I select a movie I get asked for a payment, why is this?
The 12 month offer is for Apple TV Plus, which is a service for Apple originals only. It does not contain access to the iTunes store, which have content available for rental or purchase.
Apple TV Plus currently has 22 series and 4 movies, with more added each month. To see exactly what is included you would scroll down to "Available Apple TV Channels" and select the Apple TV Plus icon, which is the section you would have navigated to in order to claim the offer.

You likely goofed and accidentally cancelled your Apple TV + subscription. You can contact AppleCare to see if they can help you. To find the number in your area please click AppleCare contact Information
A cancellation can only be initiated by a user, and will cancel the subscription as well as stop the trial. As per the terms it cannot be reactivated. You are free to contact Apple but it would be within their discretion as to whether an exception is granted.
Thanks for that, I notice that my free subscription is shown as cancelled on the same day I set it up which is very odd.
Can I address that as there doesn’t seem to anyway of doing so?
