Just upgraded to iphone 11. When I search for a name in spotlight search and select the name, it no longer takes me that person's numbers. It just opens the contacts app so I have to search again. How do i fix this?

Have you already tried a "forced" restart of your new iPhone?:--> Force restart iPhone – Apple Support

As a workaround, I'd try to sign out from your Apple ID, restart your iPhone, then sign back in to your Apple ID.

Contacts are synched with my MacBook pro and they are in iCloud as well. Am not synching anything with gmail. I transferred data by backing up old phone (6S+) with iTunes on the MacBook and then restoring that backup to this phone.
Tried it just now. No change I'm afraid. Still getting the contacts main page when I tap someone's name in search
Are you syncing your contacts to iCloud or where else? to Gmail?
How did you transfer data from your old iPhone to this new one?
