Question: Third-party email client issues: Spark.

For a long time, I've used the Mail app for my personal MacBook and Outlook for my work computer. Recently I got curious and did a little research on some different/efficient email clients for both macOS and iOS (Spark/Airmail/Newton/Outlook... ). Especially since I can't get used to the iOS Mail app.

I tried to set up Spark, but I found that it used a lot of resources (CPU and RAM) and my laptop started heating up. Anyone else has experienced this or something similar, or could know why this happened?

I have a 2017 13" MacBook Air with Catalina 10.15.4

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.15

I use Spark solely for my gmail account. I use gmail solely for subscribing to lists, grocery stores, registering products, etc. It's just a spam collector account.

I don't see it using much of any resources on either my MacBook Pro or Mini, but I don't put a lot of stress on the app at all.

Is it still busy downloading all of the email for all of those accounts?

Thanks for your reply.

It was busy downloading them but the use of CPU went up to 80%. I had closed my browser and everything else, and just left my laptop with Spark open. I tried the same thing on Airmail and it downloaded without crashing everything else, so maybe I'll better use that. I guess the problem was Spark itself (could be).

I used the Mail app for a long time but push notifications with Exchange and overall performance on my phone is not the best. I don't know if I should just go back to use it.

After a while Airmail asked me for (what I consider to be) a lot of money per month to continue. It also creates a lot of folders like To Do in all your accounts.

It is good though.

Do you still use it, Peter? Or you switched to a free email client?

I'm also not willing to pay a lot if I'm not going to really benefit from it. I'm not what one would call a "power user", I just looked for a clean, easy app that syncs well and doesn't keep my fans running like a jet taking off.

I have no idea about that problem. When I heard that Spark saves your e-mail password on its servers, I decided to stay far away from it.

I used it only for running my seldom used gmail. I just dropped it once the demand for money came and use phone for gmail.

My main mail app is paid-for Outlook 365 but you get a lot more for similar money, like office!
