Question: iWatch app

I have an update (watchOS 6.2.1) that my watch says it needs but doesn’t have the storage for given what it has on it right now. However, I CANNOT back out of the update menu in the watch app on the iPhone to manage the storage on my watch because it tells me I either proceed with the update or unpair and factory reset my watch... but every time I tell it to update it tells me to manage the storage of the watch to make space for the update, and to do that through the watch app, which directs me RIGHT BACK to the update screen.

How can I make some space on my watch to do this silly update without completely resetting my watch? Or is this just going to force me to factory reset my watch just to update it?

Apple Watch Series 3, watchOS 5

Restarted both watch and phone to see if it would let me manage storage before proceeding with the update. Still stuck with the option to either update (but no real storage for it) or do a factory reset of the watch which I’d rather avoid.

Clearly. However, I cannot manage the watch through the phone as I’ve mentioned, and now that the watch decided to unpair itself I no longer have access to the watch face. Seems like I’m left with just the nuclear option at this point.
