No HDMI Volume Control

My new Mac mini can output sound via HDMI to my monitor, but it does not allow me to control the volume. I have to use my monitor's buttons and navigate through a clunky menu to change the monitor's volume.

This is not an issue in any Linux distro or in Windows. There, I am able to leave the monitor at max volume and adjust the volume from within the OS.

It appears that the only solution to this problem is to buy 3rd party software from Rogue Amoeba named "SoundSource". This is ridiculous.

Someone please tell me that the engineers at Apple are not this stubborn. Is there some hidden menu setting that allows me to control the volume of my HDMI device in the same manner that I'm able to adjust the volume of the Mac mini's built-in speaker or of my headphones that are connected to the Mac mini's 3.5mm jack?

Hello JackT_

From my understanding is that you are using a Mac mini > HDMI > Monitor and you would like to control the volume of the monitor volume via Mac mini volume control, correct?

HDMI output to the monitor for video and sound will defaults to volume controls on the monitor: Connect to HDMI from your Mac

Using 3.5mm jack would allow uses of volume controls independently: About the audio ports on Mac

Hopefully this answer your question!

Cheers!
