I reloaded OS for Macbook Pro from b-u, but have lost Apple software

Hi there. Can you help? I reloaded OS for Macbook Pro (2015) from back-up but it seems to be a skeleton version; Apple software has gone. How can I replenish these? Includes System Preferences, iPhoto, Notes, App Store, etc.

I think it's Yosemite. I only reloaded it to refresh my Macbook as it's quite old (relatively); not because of any issue.

Thank you.

MacBook Pro 13", OS X 10.10

It sounds like your backup is incomplete or damaged. See if you can download macOS 10.11 El Capitan to see if you can install it so you get a good version of macOS. I'm suggesting 10.11 since it can be downloaded outside of the App Store.

Use this Apple article to download and install the macOS 10.11 El Capitan installer:

Then create a bootable macOS USB installer using instructions found in this Apple article:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

When you boot from the USB installer make sure to use Disk Utility to select the physical drive and erase it as GUID partition and MacOS Extended (Journaled). If the physical drive is not seen in the left pane of Disk Utility then click on "View" and select "Show All Devices". See this Apple article with details on how to erase the physical drive:

Once you perform a clean install of 10.11 you can try migrating your user account data. Don't migrate anything else as it may be incomplete or corrupt.

I should add that once you get macOS 10.11 installed you should upgrade to a later version of macOS such as macOS 10.14 Mojave. Your laptop can also support macOS 10.15 Catalina, but Catalina does not support 32bit apps. Links to download these operating systems are contained in this Apple article:

You may likely need to be using the same OS as on your backups in order to migrate your user account data unless you manually copy it from the backup.
