my external HD won’t mount

2019 27” iMac. Seagate 8tb external HD and hub. It will only mount from a Belkin usb 2.0 hub not when plugged into the Mac. The drive is usb 3.0 so I am losing speed. Also it would mount on my old 2009 iMac.

I have run disk utility. It is fine but it can be hard for the utility to unmount the drive.

when I reboot into recovery mode w the drive plugged into the Mac it doesn’t see it

any ideas?

now the especially weird part. I don’t know what this means. The hub has a usb b item plugged into it. If I unplug that the Seagate unmounts. No idea why

running latest Mac OS.
