My photos are taking up 50gb of my storage even though I uploaded everything to iCloud. How can I remove them from my storage without deleting everything from iCloud too?

To increase space available, go Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and select Optimize iPhone/iPad Storage. That will reduce the space required by about 90% when fully effective.

You can't when using iCloud Photos.

iCloud is a syncing service, not off device storage. Photos will be always be present on both your device and iCloud.
