Can't format to APFS

I purchased a LaCie 2TB Rugged SSD Pro Thunderbolt 3 External SSD for my MacBookPro 16. When I try to format, I do not get the option to use APFS using Disk Utility. Is it not possible to do so?

Formatting a new SSD. APFS Hi All I have an Imac running Monterey 12.5.1. I just bought a new Samsung 2TB T7 Touch SSD. I want to format it in APFS but that option doesn't appear when I go to erase in Disk Utility. I attach a shot of what I see. Can you advise how I can fix this please? Many thanks Richard

Disk Utility does not show APFS format I'm running OS 11.6. After much agonizing over what format (noun) to format (verb) an external SSD I decided to go with APFS. Imagine my surprise that Disk Utility did not have that option. What gives?

First, you must be certain you are COMPLETLY ERASing the drive by its immutable device-name using Disk Utility, Not any LaCie-provided Utilities.

At that point, you may see more options.
