KeyBoard Symbol Issues Ukulele

My friend’s enter/return key was physically not working, so we thought we would try to program another key(*) to take its place. After researching, I saw a video that recommended Ukulele to reassign keys.

I tested the “*” key and it didn’t work as intended. Instead of operating like the return/enter key, it typed the symbols”TM.” To make a situation worse, now all my symbols are out of order and I cannot get them back to the correct order! I tried a factory reset and it didn’t work.

Her Laptop is from Sweden and I’m not sure if it has any impact.

Please help.

PS Ukelele cannot change or replace anything on your machine. To get the right key mapping, you just need to have the right item showing in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen. For a Swedish machine, that is normally Swedish Pro, like this:

On that the middle row key next to return normally produces apostrophe and star, with ™ when you hold down the option key.

Ukelele is used to create custom keyboards which you have to install on your machine. If the one you created doesn't work right, you just remove it. Normally they are located in Home/Library/Keyboard Layouts or Library/Keyboard Layouts.

Even without removing it, you should be able to deactivate it in system preferences/keyboard/input sources, so you will just have your normal keyboard present.

I don't think Ukelele can be used to program Return, just normal characters. You might check an app called Karabiner.
