Rode VideoMicro and Iphone 11 Pro Max

I recently purchased the Rode VideoMicro to improve my audio with the iPhone 11 Pro max. I use the "dead cat" over the microphone, adapter that comes with the iPhone, and the trs to trrs adapter but not matter what there is a bunch of white noise in the background. Sometimes it sounds like I have the microphone plugged in but its still using my iPhone's microphone.

Does anyone have advice on how to record videos that don't have the white noise/hiss in the background without having to edit it out?

Hi there gailmarie95,

It sounds as though when recording videos you're hearing a white noise effect upon playback. You're in the right place to seek a solution, I'd be happy to assist!

Here is a resource below that can help:

If the microphones on your iPhone aren't working

I hope this helps,

Cheers!

gailmarie95,

Thank you for the updated information regarding which steps you've taken to resolve the issue.

From the previous article, do the steps listed under "If the microphone doesn't work in a specific app" section have an effect on the audio recording?

Sine you are using a Mac, below is a resource that can help with background noise during recording:

Change the sound input settings on Mac

Specifically these steps:

"Capture less background noise when using your computer’s built-in microphone: Select “Use ambient noise reduction.” This option is not available if a 4-channel built-in microphone format is selected in Audio MIDI Setup."

Have a great day!
