I am unable to install Neoffice 3.2.1 on my mb which i found is 32bit dual core is this a compatibility problem

I have downloaded NeoOffice 3.2.1 onto my Mb air early 2015. I think this is not 32bit compatible; I am not certain if it is 64bit and that is the reason I am unable to install. I purchased the Magazine LibreOffice which supports MacOS (ps I thought my MacBook Air was 64bit until I investigated

Thanks Roger. So I have 2 choices: Run the freebie DVD labelled LibreOffice 6.3 ( must admit I don’t need all the bells and whistles that would have been needed at work ( now relaxing in my 7 decade) So Catalina is 64bit only. Had I left it on Monjove previous OS would have been better. Roger can you recommend a preference NeoOffice or LibreOffice and of course the free version (the Apple store does not give free gizzits. And hoprfully this will be a solution. Must admit looking at the layout on Microsoft word over LibreOffice ODF Microsoft looks more professional (maybe I am wrong. It appears that Apple now are starting to having the need for more updates to be installed. Thanks again. John

Thanks for your patience looks like the free version but LibreOffice (latest version) or Neo. Must admit I was confused with the dual core processor on my MB air thinking it was 32bit. If the graphics are on a-par on either it won’t make any difference. Again thanks for all your help. I will do this download/dvd load onto the Mac 2 nite. Ps I will get back to you if that’s ok.

Kind regards. John

An ex service friend of mine - sent me the NeoOffice via Dropbox. Saying it is free and hence he being on Macs since the year dot I took his word for it - but unfortunately he got a wee bit pee off and we dropped everything at his bedtime. I did not want to break a friendship with him since being shipmates in 1972. What I will do is get in touch when I’ve sorted this out. As you say NeoOffice isn’t free ? I will double check on that. Kind regards john

I'm not familiar with "Magazine LibreOffice" - it's a template?

But - you find can a lot of archived versions of LibreOffice at https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ going back to version 3.3.0.4 from 2011. They are for different flavours of Mac (PPC, x86 and x86_64), Windows, and Linux.

As near as I can recall, LibreOffice was a simply a re-naming of the NeoOffice project.

At any rate, you can probably "drill down" through those directories and find a version that works for you.

hi Barney thanks for your response; I bought the Magazine called “ Discover LibreOffice “. This had a free DVD “ LibreOffice 6.3

(which reading can only be used on MacOS 64bit but can be used on 32bit windows (I tried it on my old redundant Windows 7 and it worked fine. However I had purchased it for my MB air ( purchased early 2015) and looking at the spec it is only and I quote “ macOS Catalina version 10.15.4. Processor 1.6Ghz Dual-core Intel Core i5. So I am certain that this is only a 32bit processor. I read that all Macs after 2006 (Barneys input) are 64bit ? To you John Rose6 thanks for your information I will try your link if nothing else. And Barney thanks for your input I appreciate all help given

You've got it backwards. You are running Catalina which runs only 64 bit applications. Evidently the version of NeoOffice you are trying is 32 bit, and so won't run. You should check with them about a more recent version.

LibreOffice is now at 6.4.3, or with a slightly older an potentially more stable version at 6.3.6: both run on 64 bit so will work on Catalina. Again you're evidently trying to install an older version.

Thanks Roger. I must be getting it wrong but I thought dual - core processors run at 32bit I did read that information. So what you are saying is forgive my ignorance I should be alright loading the DVD (freebie with the magazine ) on LibreOffice 2019 purchased should be OK. Lastly the magazine just stipulates that “ Apple macOS (aka macOS X )/ macOS 10.10 (Yosemite) or higher. Again thanks. john

Your Mac will run both 32 64 bit out of the box, but as you are running Catalina it now won't run 32 bit applications. LibreOffice 6.3.6 will run on 64 bit: you may have 6.3.0 but that should be the same. However you can get the most recent (it's free) at the link I gave you above.

NeoOffice has a few extra facilities but has to be paid for. The latest version is available from the Mac App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/neooffice/id639210716?mt=12

It will run on Catalina so you can use it if you think it's worth paying for ($29.99/£28.99).

if you are going to use LibreOffice I should go for the download to get the latest version - you could try 6.4 and see if it's OK. Discs with magazines are almost always out of date by the time you get them.

NeoOffice's site lists the extras: if you don't need them there's little difference. I've looked at LibreOffice but I use other programs. Mostly it seems pretty good - the word processor looks a bit cluttered to me but MS is likely to be worse (and expensive). Their spreadsheet is also pretty good, but the database is horrible. (Unfortunately it's difficult to get a decent database without spending a lot of money.)

It's up to you whether you want to throw money at Microsoft: you can try LibreOffice for free.

Visited NeoOffice's site ages ago, and I seem to remember you can't save files in the free version. Give LibreOffice a shot. It's completely free. Of course they accept donations, but you're not required to do so.

About dual core CPU's. They're just as 64 bits as a quad core :) All the CPU's released since the late 2000's are all 64 bits. Apart from some Intel Atom's that I know of. :)

NeoOffice is not free...

That's new.

I have what must be an early version on my Mac Mini (Snow Leopard 10.6.8) and it was free at the time. I think I got it when I could not update OpenOffice anymore. I did not realize that it's a commercial product now.

I've installed LibreOffice on my new MacBook Pro, as well as on three Linux machines. It's handy to have the file portability.

@jnscts - Good to hear.
