My trackpad is too sensitive. How to fix?
I was about to start a new thread until I spotted this one.
System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click > uncheck Tap to Click
You know, I kept going back to that Preference panel and still did not catch it.
I had the same problem as bovona when typing. While I'm hunting and pecking, always looking at the keyboard, one of my thumbs might have very lightly brushed the trackpad. I'd look up at the display and discover that I'd inadvertently bumped the caret into some random point in the paragraph, so my text was all out of order.
This from the Help files:
"On a Force Touch trackpad, force click an item to take action. (To force click, press firmly until you feel a deeper click.) For example, force click a file in the Finder to show it in a Quick Look window. With the checkbox selected, you also feel tactile feedback when aligning objects in some apps, like Preview."

What you can do with a Force click
Here are some examples of what you can do with a Force click:
[long list of actions to do)
See now, I've never seen any of that happen, and I'd just assumed that "Tap" was more-or-less the same as "Click", because clicking was always what I meant to do. I'd press until I hear the click (or double-click) and stuff would happen.
To get a Quick Look window in the Finder, I'd use the Space bar.
Anyway, unchecking "Tap to Click" is exactly the feature I was looking for. It will save me a lot of grief.

On Mac? Just a guess...
System Preferences > Trackpad > Point & Click > uncheck Tap to Click
You can also adjust Click force there.
Live and learn, right?
I always make it a practice to browse (not read) user manuals and always skim thru all menus and preference panes.
Enjoy!
