Why did my contacts merge with my dads while we are using different iClouds

If you are not sharing Apple IDs, that should not have happened. Unless you are sharing an email account and did something like:

Did the contacts merge on both your and your dad's devices? Or just on yours? Or your dad's? Are they duplicate contacts by any chance? If so, see:
