I was suddenly locked out of my iPad mini 2 saying activation is required. It keeps on asking for Apple ID and Password. When I key it in...it says “The Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad”...though I am sure it’s the correct details. Tried restoring it but still the same.
Any help / suggestion?

If you mean "activation lock", neither we (just users like you) nor Apple can help you, sorry, unless you are the original owner and you still have the proof of purchase (receipt/invoice).
Shouldn’t be this case, activation lock can be removed only by the previous owner, with the credentials that were used to activate that iPhone. Without those credentials, that device is useless to you.

I had set it up as a new phone with my own credentials.
Checking my apple account for the list of my gadgets, it is still included...but not in icloud.
That’s why I am puzzled how and why did it suddenly happened.
Been using it for years by the way.
