Hello, does anybody have an opinion on whether it is worthe keeping the old version of iMovie 9.0.8 When I installed iMovie 10.1.9 the old version was not removed. Now I am wondering if there are advantages to keeping both.

As long as iMovie 9 is running on your Mac, keep it around. You cannot get it back. Some features of iMovie 9.0.8 are no longer available in iMovie 10.1.9, for example chapter markers: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8563553
