Pairing Apple Watch series 1 and IPhone 6

Pairing Apple Watch series 1 and I phone 6- Hi - I have an old series 1 Apple Watch and I am trying to pair with an iPhone 6, I have turning both off / restarting and still don’t get the 6 digit code to pair, I have also tried the activation generated on the iPhone And tried this ‘password and security’ and the app just closed and unpaired the device - can anyone help this is for my wife to use
