This is my first Mac--Is it necessary to have malware or antivirus software on MacBook Pro? If so, which one(s) is the best? I have heard about Windows Defender, Bitdefender, and others.

Millions of new virus are written yearly. Technology changes so fast and thieves programs are ever more sophisticated. I think it's something we Mac users should reconsider that smugness that we shan't worry. Do not install any third party antivirus apps on your Mac.

I don't think anyone here has ever said Macs can't get ransomware. Ransomware is not a virus.
Many people will tell you not to get one, but in my personal opinion I would at least have Malwarebytes. Hope this helps. (I'm pretty new to Mac myself, had one for less than a year) 😉
thanks so much.
I just read that. Thank you for helping.
