Overheating issues on iOS 13.5
I have been experiencing overheating on my iPhone 11 Pro Max after the iOS 13.5 update even with minimal usage (eg. Safari web browsing). Anyone else having this issue as well?

It is not clear here in your post about the ambient temperature in your area where you are using the iPhone. However --> Keeping iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch within acceptable ...
Store the device where the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F). Don’t leave the device in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range.
Use iOS devices where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F). Low- or high-temperature conditions might cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature. Using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off. Battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures. Using an iOS device in very hot conditions can permanently shorten battery life.
I’ve been noticing my phone getting abnormally hot over the last week or so. It has nothing to do with ambient temperatures. My house is running between mid 60s over night to a high of 76 during the day.
I continuously shut all open apps but that has no effect.
Hey Apple
my phone overheated in 20 minutes of a zoom call. I hadn’t used it before the call. It heats up in my pocket when nothing is on.
Worked fine last week. This weekend phone updated to 13.5.1 anD this started happening
what is going on?
Same here.
Iphone SE 2 with iOs 13.5.1
Ambient temp. 18-25 centigrade
I’ve noticed my phone is overheating while using normal apps like Whatsapp. Not even watching videos.
Battery life is far from impressive too
My iPhone SE, the OG... Is baking while writing this now .... Very concerning... thinking is iOS 13.5. Haven’t had any issues before hand. And my battery life is not lasting, as long, as it once did... ☹️
I currently have the same issue on my iPhone SE (1st gen). Scary how much the thing heats up for just doing Facebook browsing, emails, Snapchat etc. Operating conditions are ambient room temperature.
It basically made my phone inoperable as performance really has fallen significantly where nearly all my apps (including Settings) were crashing, forcing me to restart the system nearly every 10 or so minutes.
Luckily I identified that I have a system backup on iCloud so I tried a full system reset (wiping all content and settings and reloading iOS from within the phone), with success. However, this seems to have partially fixed the performance issue, but the heat is still there.
In hope to get over 13.5, I also have tried loading the Beta release of iOS 13.6. The public profile loaded, but had little luck in actual downloading the OS overnight :-(
Certainly very frustrating indeed...
I'm going to see how it goes over the next few days. For now, the SE will live out of its case.
In pure frustration I decided to jump on the developer programme. I’m running iOS 13.6. Little has changed sadly and I’m still experiencing sudden hotspots and general heat build up. Forget using Facebook and Twitter or any other power hungry app. It’s funny because not so long ago it was all about battery drain which is still there but now overshadowed by the overheating.
Shame as I like my Xs but if it continues into iOS14 I’ll bail out from Apple.
So I updated to iOS 14 beta and I’ve been using it for almost 2 weeks now and I can confirm that on my iPhone XS Max, the overheating issue has been resolved. I use it on my daily driver and Yes there are a few bugs but nothing dealbreaking. It has been stable with everything I do. In case you guys want, you can give it a try. Also make sure to make a encrypted backup first, just in case if you want to return to iOS 13 :)
My new iPhone 11 Pro Max arrived today. The phone is getting hot Especially when Charging. Very warm to the touch while using it briefly. And gets hot when I tried to charge it. This has apparently been a problem for a year based on earlier posts. I would like to know why it happens on first day and what Apple is doing about it.
since I just got it today and activated it today the reset option is a mute point
I took my XS to the Apple Store today and they said they'd never heard of the heating problem. They offered to have a look at the device which I agreed to but of course, they found nothing.
A word of warning here. When they remove the case the seal doesn't get replaced rendering your phone no longer ip68 water tight. Thanks Apple.
I have same issue on iphone 6s. Even when playing video on chromecast via my iphone (which means no video running on iphone), still my iPhone heats up.
really worried that whats going wrong with Apple’s testing facility before releasing new software. (Where is the testing?)
Thanks for the warning about it losing the water tightness. I’m going to replace my phone whatever happens, but I’d rather not break it more.
I'm going to take mine in anyway and demonstrate it heating up in front of them within a minute, then they can’t deny it is happening.
I'm actually running iOS14 Beta 3 at the moment and it still gets warm just under the camera lens. I haven't experienced it becoming too hot to hold, yet but it's still not right. My sons new SE2 which I may he watches Netflix on never gets warm so there I am, the proud owner of an XS with most features disabled - Siri - forget using YouTube, Twitter or even Safari etc and stay away from Apple News, too processor dependant.
The last couple of days I notice my IPhone 11 heating up just with normal use. Checking email, browsing the web, and watching podcasts. I just upgraded to the new iOS around that same time. I am in 77 degree room that has AC. It was not doing this before the update but is now.
Hello and ditto here since 13.6 for my iPhone XR and iPad 6th gen. using original and new (authentic) Apple cord and adapters (and via my iMac). I see that today there's an update 13.6.1, so perhaps that will help. Never had the problem before.
Yes, I've got into a pickle with this heat problem too. 13.3.1 was fine (for iOS13) but then came 13.5 and "boom" the heat started. From there I quickly went back to 13.4 and no joy. I then downloaded 13.5.1 and still no joy. When 13.6 arrived I jumped on it, what did I have to lose. After two days it started heating up again, bugger. It was then I thought I might as well jump on the iOS14 Beta program. The first beta was pretty bad but I waited and Beta 3 was better. We still had heat but it wasn't burning. Then came Beta 4 which was full of bugs and more heat for me so I went back to 13.6. Yeah we had heat with those simple tasks. Forget using Safari, - way too hot with the crazy battery drain following close behind.
I then then jumped on 13.6.1 and seriously, no change. I reset my phone and downgraded to 13.6 and I still have a warm phone but haven't experienced the burning yet although I use the phone with caution and dare not mess beyond 60 seconds.
Phew ... That's my journey so far and what a crock it is too. For a £1000 phone I expect better.
