Importing videos from an external hard drive to iMovie on iPhone

I recently purchased a external hard drive for my iPhone to free up some space. I would like to know if there is a way that I can import videos directly from this hard drive into iMovie on my iPhone?

The video was recorded on an IPad air through the program "Switcher Pro", yet when we connect the ipad and turn on image capture, we cannot even access the videos.
