Phone number on ipad

If you have an iPad that can use a SIM card, it will get a phone number by the carrier that you have your data plan through. However, this phone number is just there for the purpose of the carrier setting it up for data. There is no way to get the iPad to have a number for you to use for phone calls or texting. If you want to text or call with the iPad, you can have your phone (if it’s an iPhone) forward calls and texts to your iPad as well and you can use it “through” your phone, but it will not have a way for you to call it directly. You can also use it to text and FaceTime using your Apple ID.

A Cellular iPad will have a phone number. This phone number is only used for billing purposes by the phone carrier. It is not a number that can be used for phone calls or texts.
