Apparent Bug: Adding photo to Contacts

I was editing a contact and noticed an apparent bug:

Go to Contacts --> Select a Contact (one without an assigned picture) --> Click "edit" --> Click add photo --> Select the option "Take photo" --> Take a photo.

Even after selecting use photo, it will not be added to your contacts. The contact will still show no photo. Additionally, the photo will not be added to your photos album or anything. New bug?

I am having the same problem. Pressing "done" does not fix it. After I take the contact photo, I am not able to resize or move the picture. When the "use photo" prompt comes up, I press it and the phone says it is "saving picture". At this point, the photo should show up in the contact's photo box, but it doesn't. Pressing "done" just closes the editing process, with no update made.

As a workaround, I am just taking photos with the camera (not from the contact edit mode) and adding them manually from my photo library.

Same problem here. Interesting though:
Contacts in iPhone do not show Photos. Contact in Mac Address Book do
Setting the Picture in Mac Address Book (Card > Choose Custom Image, then drag image > Set) works after sync, as does editing the image with no changes in Address Book (Card > Choose Custom Image > Set) then sync
It looks like the problem is setting it on the iPhone side?
Hope this helps a little as a workaround while a fix is found.

I have the same issue with iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.0.1. I can add photos that are already stored on phone, but I cannot add photos to a contact "on the fly" - the picture is taken, cannot be moved or resized, and then never appears on the contact after "Use Photo" is selected.

I have used this feature extensively in the iPhone 3.x OS, so I know how it was supposed to work. Not huge, but an issue that I am sure will be worked out.

I have noticed this issue and and off throughout the history of my various iPhones. In iOS 4 it is certainly there, but I am honestly unsure if this is a bug with the OS, or something that is in my backups that just continues to manifest as I update/transfer my iPhone to new ones each year.
While I applaud that I have been able to do that and the relative stability, it would be GREAT if I could carry forward application data, yet delete other settings. I'd really like to start my iPhone over (as in, set it up as new and just transfer my apps and their data back to the phone,) but it is really an all or nothing proposition.

Have any of you had this issue after a reset of the iPhone? Are we all people who have carried our phone images forward? Would be curious to know...

Contacts in the iphone do show pictures. When you click on "all contacts" then tap the name of the contact...it takes you to information. There you have the photo. I am on my third phone (iPhone 4) and have never had a problem with photos. You can load them to a Mac or to your phone. Click on the photo slot and it will lead you to your iphoto or camera roll. There you can pick what you want and resize the photo. .
