High Sierra & iTunes

I have an old iMac 2011 with High Sierra, iTunes 12.8.2. I am trying to listen to a DVD but iTunes keeps saying it is not available as it is updating. Nor will the program open from the task bar. I have just updated the Mac, I have turned it off and on again. How can I update/reset iTunes so I can use it.

This wasn't possible because I wasn't offered Quit, only remove from dock, open at login or show in finder. When I clicked on the app I was told can't open because being updated.

However I have solved the problem

go to support.apple/downloads/itunes

download the version of iTunes you want. Click on it to install. Another box pops up, click on download the iTunes version. It downloads the installer and the version - or in my case it corrects the program half installed on my machine.

Hello Rositanne,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about updating iTunes.

Please start by quitting iTunes using the Name iTunes > Quit. If it will not quit, you can force quit: How to force an app to quit on your Mac - Apple Support

Then, restart your Mac and check for updates: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support

This article will help you check if there are any updates to iTunes available for your macOS version: Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support
