How can I send named group messages to people who don't have iPhones.

How can I send named group messages to people who don't have iPhones? This is a serious drawback on the message app! I regularly send messages to different groups with overlapping members and it quickly get's confusing as to which group you want when sending another message. Having a name for each group would prevent me from having to click on 20 different names each time i need to send a message to a group before a meeting. What do other folks do to get around this failing? iMessage only works if everyone has an iPhone.
