Why are Youtube videos "restricted" on new Mac Book Pro
Why are lots of Youtube videos "restricted" when I try to access them on my new Mac Book Pro and what can I do about it? The same videos played fine on my old Mac!
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hello frances76,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that YouTube videos that you were able to play on your previous Mac now show restricted when attempting to play them on your new MacBook Pro. I would be happy to help explore possible causes with you.
I'd like to start by having you check that there are no Content & Privacy Restrictions on your Mac that could be preventing playback of these videos:
Set up content and privacy restrictions in Screen Time on Mac - Apple Support
Next, check if Restricted Mode is enabled for YouTube:
Disable or enable Restricted Mode - Computer - YouTube Help
Keep us posted on the results.
Cheers!
Hello Becky,
Thanks so much for your reply. I checked the Apple Screen Time settings, Content and Privacy Restrictions were set to off. I have also checked Youtube, and Restricted Mode is off. Is there anything else you can suggest? I did try the Apple support chat, they said it was nothing to do with Apple, I use Google Chrome as my browser and they said that I should change restrictions on that, but I couldn't find anywhere to do that.
Best wishes
Hi frances76,
Thanks for getting back to us with the additional details. Have you by chance checked if you're able to play the videos in another browser like Safari or Firefox? If they do play in other browsers and the issue is specific to Chrome, here's how you can change permissions for websites:
Change site permissions - Computer - Google Chrome Help
You may need to click the down arrow next to the word 'Advanced' if you're not seeing 'Site settings' in step 3. If YouTube videos still won't play in Chrome after following those steps, you'll want to reach out to Google support next.
Take care.
Thanks for your help, I finally seem to have sorted this out by finding "Re-set settings", in Google Chrome. I just wonder why it suddenly happened on a new Mac Book when it didn't happen on the old one - who changed the settings and why?? You don't really need to answer, it has just been very frustrating. But thanks for helping me sort it.
